Dr. Abi returns from maternity leave: A thank you and some changes

The baby is here! Yay!

Abi Weissman, Psy.D.

It's true. I'm ba-ack.

I have been away for a short maternity leave while my wife gave birth to our wonderful baby.

Dr. Camilla has been an AMAZING back-up clinician. I so appreciate her help and support as I've tended to my family. I've returned to work and, in doing so, realized that I need to change up my schedule so that I can be my best clinical self when I am at work.

My new hours will be:

Monday - Poway - Clinical day: 10 am to 6 pm, with the last appointment at 5pm.

Tuesday: Administration day

Wednesday - Hillcrest: Clinical day: 10 am to 6 pm, unless otherwise scheduled; San Diego Psych Association Board Meeting once a month

Thursday - Poway- Clinical Day: 10 am to 6 pm, with the last appointment at 5 pm

Friday: Day off

Saturday: Day off

Sunday: Day off

The good news is, my smaller schedule opens up more opportunities for new clients to see my esteemed colleague, Dr. Camilla Williams, and my wonderful psychological assistant, Dr. Sarah Jacobs-Paul. Dr. Camilla works during business hours and Dr. Sarah works during the evening hours. Both are skilled clinicians with an LGBTQIQAP - affirming stance and experience in working with queer and trans clients.

I've also increased my rates to $200 per session for new clients and am slowly dropping off of insurance panels.

I will always be happy to produce a superbill (big ol' receipt) for clients to submit to insurance for reimbursement but am getting less and less able to spend the extra time needed to complete the regular audits and chart reviews for the insurance panels I am on. I do my best work with clients than with their insurance paperwork.

As I am looking make my way off panels, I am supporting Dr. Camilla in joining them. She is willing to join some major panels so as to be more accessible to potential clients. In addition, Dr. Sarah and I are reaching out to insurance companies to see which ones will let her work with clients under my license. We will look to join those panels that allow Dr. Sarah to practice under my license.

Please note that these processes are slow in coming to fruition. I'll continue to bill insurance for the time being while doing more research about my next steps. Please do not hesitate to be in touch with myself, Dr. Camilla, or Dr. Sarah at Waves, A Psychological Corporation with any questions or to schedule an appointment with a Waves' Clinician. We remain excited to serve our communities.

With appreciation,

Dr. Abi Weissman

Who I AmI am Abigail “Abi” Weissman, Psy.D. (PSY 27497). I am a clinical psychologist but you might also call me an empowering supporter and a self-love affirmer.

What I DoI help people who wish they could be their full queer, transgender, religious, liberal, activist, polyamorous, and/or kink selves but hold themselves back because they are scared they will be unloved, unemployed, and rejected by their loved ones and communities.

Why?I encourage them to share their deepest wishes so that they can learn to be happy being themselves. I know from my own path to wellness and years of working with LGBTQIQA clients that it is possible to survive the fear of others’ judgment, hurt, and disappointment to live your true self.

Contact Me TodayI believe that loving yourself will change the world for the better! That’s why I hope that you contact me today. I provide individual therapy, relationship, and group therapy; consultation for clinicians and organizations; supervision; and trainings.
