Therapy for undergraduate and graduate college and university students in San Diego, California and Virginia
Sometimes college just sucks. You can’t find your people, you know the ones you were supposed to have when you decided to go here. You got in and this was not what they said it would be on the college website.
School is much harder than you thought it would be. The stress is almost unbearable, the teachers push you and you just can’t seem to know what they want. You had an IEP in high school but you thought you had figured out your ADHD or LD and you would be fine now, on your own.
Your thought it would be better when you got to university. Instead, here you are, trying to figure out not only what you want to study, but who you are including your gender, sexual, orientation, and religious identities. All you know is that you are surrounded by people who don’t seem to get your nerdy college student self and you miss home.
You miss your high school friends but they are living it up in college and don’t have time to talk. Your family doesn’t get it, after all, they didn’t go to school and so you can’t really share why it’s not working for you after they worked so hard to get you here. You feel alone.
You tried to reach out, first to your RA but she didn’t really seem to get your concerns. You went to the counseling center, but soon learned that they were all booked up until next semester and you really can’t wait that long. Then they said that when you get in to see them that they couldn’t meet with you for more than one or two sessions and you want someone who you can see weekly who will really listen to you
