Black Lives Matter!

BlackLivesMatterWaves.jpg

Dear Community,

We wanted to let you know that we have updated our values section on our web page to more clearly reflect our values.

We now state:

The clinicians and staff are committed to valuing Black clients. We want Black clients to feel  respected, heard, seen, believed and valued at Waves. We strongly agree that Black Lives Matter.

The clinicians and staff are committed to valuing People of Color. We want People of Color to feel respected, heard, seen, believed and valued at Waves.

Each staff member at Waves agrees to follow our non-discrimination policies (linked here).

We are also ensuring that every member of our staff takes this class (Cultural Somatics Free 5 Session Ecourse ). As white people, we commit to continue unlearning racism and striving towards being antiracist.

Some examples of courses we’ve been taken of late in addition to the course listed above are:

  • California Psychological Association’s Go Back to Your Own Country: Conversation on Race and Racism during COVID-19 (Dr. Camilla attended)

  • Motivo’s Racial Trauma in America: A Webinar for Mental Health Professionals with panelists Dr. Makungu Akinyela, Dr. Harrison Davis, Dr. Karla Sapp and Dr. Carla Smith (Dr. Abigail attended)

Here’s the link to watch yourself - shared with permission.

Edit: I’ve since learned that the video has a lot of distortion in it, including people cutting in and out, and partial answers! Please be gentle with yourself if you decide to watch it. Thanks for the scoop, Dr. Camilla.

Here is a screen shot of the presenters from the Motivo’s Racial Trauma in America: A Webinar for Mental Health Professionals. I strongly recommend watching the presentation yourself. (The photo was shared with permission).

We commit to work at being better allies.

In solidarity,

Who I AmI am Abigail “Abi” Weissman, Psy.D. (PSY 27497). I am a clinical psychologist but you might also call me an empowering supporter and a self-love affirmer.

What I DoI help people who wish they could be their full queer, transgender, religious, liberal, activist, polyamorous, and/or kink selves but hold themselves back because they are scared they will be unloved, unemployed, and rejected by their loved ones and communities.

Why?I encourage them to share their deepest wishes so that they can learn to be happy being themselves. I know from my own path to wellness and years of working with LGBTQIQA clients that it is possible to survive the fear of others’ judgment, hurt, and disappointment to live your true self.

Contact Me TodayI believe that loving yourself will change the world for the better! That’s why I hope that you contact me today. I provide individual therapy, relationship, and group therapy; consultation for clinicians and organizations; supervision; and trainings.

The best way to reach me is through email at info@doctorabi.com.
