BEGINNING OF RECORDING

Dr. Abi Weissman:

Dr. Camilla Williams. It's so good to have you here. Will you tell me more about your love of working with college students?

Dr. Camilla Williams:

I worked with college counseling centers for probably a decade, a little bit longer. The thing that I absolutely love about the college experience, it's a time when you are moving away from so many things and learning so many new things. So much transition. All of the things you're used to, all of the ways you're used to being are changing. You're finding and learning and discovering new things. You're often put in a room, if you've got a roommate, with somebody who has a totally different set of rules for life and you have to figure out how to work those out together. You're learning and growing and changing and thinking, discarding the things you need to from what you grew up. Learning new things, discovering and becoming, and I love being a part of that. I would say especially, I'm a first-generation college student myself, so that's a place where I really have a lot of understanding and heart for those students. I remember that experience and I remember when everybody else had the rulebook and I didn't and trying to figure that out. That's really a special place for me. There's so many exciting things going on so quickly and it all just kind of comes together.
